Soundtrap Culture Capsule: Pride Edition

Soundtrap for Education is excited to launch this month’s culture capsule: Pride Edition, which features activities that support student identity and creativity.

Pride Month Student Activities

Activity 1: Introduction to Pronouns

When talking with or about people, it’s important to be inclusive and make sure everyone is considered. One way to do this is to use gender-neutral terms for people, job titles, groups, and more. This way, everyone can feel included!

Extra credit:
There are all kinds of ways to share your pronouns or ask someone what their pronouns are! Record three different ways that you might:
1. Share your pronouns, or
2. Ask someone what pronouns they use**
**Be open to the possibility that someone might not want to share their pronouns or that their pronouns might change over time. That’s okay, too!

Activity 2: How to Be an Effective Ally to the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community

Anyone can be an ally to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community! Through deepening your understanding and sharing your experience you can help support inclusivity. This activity will help you create a Public Service Announcement to your school on how to be an effective ally in a way that is relevant to your community.

  • Step 1: Spend some time reading these resources on how to be an effective ally of 2SLGBTQ+ people (10-30 minutes)
5 Steps to Becoming a Better Ally and Being an Ally to LGBTQ People
  • Step 2: Write a script for your PSA that includes 3 ways to be an ally that are relevant to your community/school. Consider the age and experience of your peers to find the most applicable areas to include in your PSA. Questions you might consider include, “How can we make school feel safe and welcoming?” and “What can we do every day to increase our community connection?” Include actionable steps people can take to be an ally and first-hand experiences of successful allyship.
  • Step 3: Record your script in Soundtrap. Next, add music using loops that creates a positive feeling! Download the MP3 file and share your PSA with your school. Consider reaching out to your media teacher/team to get help spreading the message. Consider using the morning announcements or a school assembly to share your PSA.
